Your baby’s brain is amazing and from the ages 0-2 years it has the capacity to learn more and faster than at any other time in their lives. When messy play activities are multi-sensory the benefits are even bigger. Different senses activate different regions of the brain. When they are activated together they learn to communicate and work together. This a crucial step in development and lets them move onto more complex tasks sooner!
Research shows that during sensory play, a child’s brain is lighting up like fireworks, bursting into connections. It’s like a workout for their brain.)
We can help them them make more of these foundation connections and it’s all about sensory play. The spark that creates a connection is actually a new sensation (sensory information.) Exposure to unique, new sensory experiences means increased brain connections. More connections means being able to move onto more complex tasks. So while day to day experiences are great, because they have this extra capacity to learn, we can supplement these with sensory play activities that offer sensations they wouldn’t otherwise have. It’s a boost to the process and a meaningful advance to their cognitive development.
